Fort Greene mainstay bows to economic reality
Gardel's Garden, a trusted business owner who has serviced Fort Greene for about 20 years, is closing his business. A friendly rastafarian, Gardel sold us many a bag of dirt to plant flowers at the townhouse we rented for a few years around the corner.Sadly, though, via this Brooklynian thread, it seems he has sold his lot to a developer who plans on building a 5-family residence.

While I'll certainly miss this garden store (where I've bought many plants), increasing density is a good thing for our community.
