This area had a lot of empty lots, because these bldgs were torn down years ago by fire and such. The nabe has not been good until just recently and nobody wanted to build there until now. For the case of backyards, each lot has it's size per the BBL reports by the city. The lots for these new bldgs were per the surveys. And too bad for the other people's light, hey it's NY.

The arial photo is of the empty lot and community garden that was adjacent to it after the community garden's trees, shrubs and fence where taken down. That whole space wasn't a community garden. Most of it was an empty lot. The land used for the garden is still there, except now it collects trash and such.

that space was a community garden. some friends lived in a brownstone on adelphi and lost 1/2 their back yard including a giant oak tree. the worst part was that the condos blocked out every ounce of sun to the back windows of their home.

The developers are waiting for approval from the Attorney General to sub-divide the office space. That's the cause of the delay in construction.

I do wish they'd cover up the windows, at least, until the build-out is done.

I moved into the area after the condos had already been built. There was definitely some appropriation of people's backyards, but my neighbors had led me to believe half the block had been razed. It's strange to see such a vast, open lot in such a condensed neighborhood. I've still got issues with the building, but is anything ever going to move into the first-floor offices? They look awful.
